Freed testifies on unfunded liabilities

Port Huron City Manager James Freed making the rounds in Lansing and statewide media to discuss unfunded liabilities… such as pension and healthcare benefits that plague Port Huron and hundreds of municipalities across the state. Freed tells WPHM he has met with lawmakers and developed a multi step-plan to help cities such as Port Huron. Freed’s plan includes early warning indicators and measures to prevent bankruptcy. He testified yesterday to the Michigan House and Senate yesterday. The City of Port Huron has more than $119 million in unfunded pension and retiree health care liabilities.
