Kevin Smith Survives Massive Heart Attack

Hands down one of my favorite directors and decent human beings Kevin Smith came through the other side of a massive heart attack yesterday evening.

Smith was shooting for his new stand-up special Kevin Smith Live! at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California when he began feeling nauseous after the first show. When the Clerks director began to feel a heaviness in his chest coupled with Sweating profusely, he decided to forego the second show of the evening. It’s a decision that saved his life. Doctors said Smith had 100% blockage of the LAD artery (aka ‘the Widow-Maker’).

Though having just gone through one of his greatest fears (his father died the same way), Smith was in good spirits posting on Facebook from his hospital bed. “The point of this post is to tell you that I faced my greatest fear tonight… and it wasn’t as bad as I’ve always imagined it’d be. I don’t want my life to end but if it ends, I can’t complain. It was such a gift.”

I was lucky enough to have my path cross with Kevin Smith earlier in my radio career and he was one of the coolest, most considerate people I’ve have the pleasure of meeting.

Rock 105.5 wishes him a speedy and full recovery.
