In a press conference Wednesday morning, Port Huron City Manager James Freed named two familiar faces to head the city’s police and fire departments, respectively. Effective July 1st, Police Chief Jeff Baker will retire. Taking his place will be Captain Joseph Platzer, with Lieutenant Marcy Kuehn being promoted to Captain. Platzer has been with the Port Huron Police Department since 1988 when he became a cadet, and has held several different ranks and position over the past 30 years. Also retiring will be Fire Chief Dan Mainguy. Taking over as head of the fire department will be Battalion Chief Corey Nicholson, who has been with the city for over 16 years. Freed says all three will do an excellent job continuing to lead the city’s public safety agencies.
