A bill at the U.S. capitol seeks to expand access to lifesaving drugs for those addicted to opioids. Called the Youth Act, the legislation has been introduced by Michigan Senator Gary Peters to allow teens to have access to certain medications to help recover from opioid addictions. One of those drugs is buprenorphine, with Peters telling WPHM the lifesaving drug should be available to youth and adults alike. The legislation will also provide three-year grants to youth-focused entities for carrying out substance abuse treatment, prevention, and recovery support services. It also expands an existing youth substance use disorder program at Health and Human Services to include services for young adults as well as children and adolescents.
