A 28 year old Lapeer man is facing child abuse charges after a 17 month old left in his care suffered life threatening injuries this past weekend. According to the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department, the child and mother were staying at a friends house on Nottingham Drive in Lapeer County’s Mayfield Township. The child was brought to the hospital by her mother with severe trauma. The husband of the mothers friend who was watching the children at the time – 28 year old Emmanuel Castenda – was arrested. He was arraigned Monday on first degree child abuse charges and assault with intent to murder charges. He is currently being housed at the Lapeer County Jail on a million dollar bond. The victim is currently recovering and is in critical condition.
