On Saturday, volunteer “jailbirds” throughout our community will serve time in a “mock jail” during the 60th annual March of Dimes Jail & Bail fundraiser. The event started out in 1957 on our own 1380 WPHM, to help prevent premature births and reduce infant mortality rates. Volunteers throughout our community will be locked up in mock jails and sentenced to spend an hour in the slammer to raise bail in the form of donations to the March of Dimes. The Port Huron event has received national recognition for being the largest March of Dimes Jail and Bail fundraising event in the nation. The fundraiser runs from 9:00-4:00pm at the Masonic Center in Port Huron. There will be Food, fun, and a vast array of entertainment taking place all day.Divison Director for the March of Dimes, Cathy Martinek, tells us their new website has videos and pictures from the early years of Jail and Bail. The event will be broadcast live on 1380 WPHM. To register or to make a pledge call: 810-824-1284, or go online to: marchofdimesjailandbail.org
