Crude comment extension

Heavy crude oil may soon be transported through a pair of 98-year old pipelines beneath the St. Clair River from Michigan to Canada. The public comment on the proposal has come and gone with no public hearings or environmental analysis, and virtually no public comment. Environmentalists reportedly learned of the plan on the last day of the public comment period. The eight inch pipelines, built in 1918, has had a liner installed at a certain point. The proposal to ship the crude through the line was made by the Houston-based Plains LPG Services. The Sierra Club has asked the U.S. State Department for the public comment period to be extended. They are still waiting for a response, according to the Detroit Free Press.
