As County Administrator Bill Kauffman is set to retire on June 1st, it’s now up to county commissioners to select the process of finding his replacement. Thursday afternoon, they started the process during a special meeting held by the board. An internal county search of qualified applicants will be conducted, which Commissioner Karl Tomion says will be quicker than beginning in a wide market. He notes they may seek to fill the position on an interim basis. Over the next week goals and objectives discussed during the meeting will be refined says Tomion. Once they have the process in place, applicants will have a two week window to apply for the position. Many commissioners say they are looking for someone similar to Kauffman who was also selected from within and held the post for an interim period to begin with.
