It was award and recognition day Wednesday for the St. Clair County Child Abuse / Neglect Council. The group works toward the prevention and ultimate elimination of child abuse and neglect. One of it’s most known for fundraisers is Roof Sit which occurs in September with WSAQ morning host Chuck Santoni. Among the two dozen or so that were recognized was pizzaman Michael Morris of Jets Pizza. He was honored with the title of Community Child Advocate of the Year for helping families with a night of dinner together. Morris helped families enjoy a night together with a free pizza offer for two elementary schools. Woodrow Wilson families were also given a similar gift and Morris says he will soon be working with another school in the area. Meanwhile the annual Child Advocate of the Year honor went to Ken Sygit, a coach for a St. Clair swim team, for his work with children in the area. Port Huron Police Chief Michael Reaves was the guest speaker for the ceremony.
