Just under two weeks away, the annual Empty Bowl Fundraiser by Mid City Nutrition is making its return. This will be the last year the event takes place with Alice Rieves as Director of the organization, as she retires this month after 23 years of helping to feed those in need. Chair of Mid City Nutrition Denise Dencklau says the fundraiser, and its funds, help support the local soup kitchen and raises awareness of the hunger that exist in our community. If its your first time at the event Dencklau says you will walk in, grab a bowl and then you can get some soup and participate in many fun activities including a silent auction. You also get to take your handcrafted bowl home with you. Dencklau says the bowls symbolize the hungry in our area. Local favorite Cliff Erickson has stepped up to play music at the event after Johnny Needham’s passing in January. The fundraiser will be held at St. Stephen Church in Port Huron on April 21st, from 4:30-7pm. Tickets are $25 dollars in advance, or $30 at the door. Last year, just under $30,000 dollars was raised to help fight hunger in our community. To purchase advance tickets call: 810-334-6221.
