And people think floating down the St. Clair River for the Float Down is tough!

Traci Martin, of Kansans City, MO, plans to kayak throughout the Great Lakes water system, starting in Ft. Gratiot. Her plan is to start March 9th at the Ft. Gratiot Lighthouse Station Park. She will head north from there, along Lake Huron, into the Straits of Mackinac, and off to Lake Superior and Lake Michigan.

After hitting the Great Lakes surrounding the state of Michigan, she will head up the St. Lawrence Seaway, into the Atlantic Ocean, down the coast, and kayak through rivers in New York to get back to Lake Ontario, and then into Lake Erie, where she will finish her 8600 mile trip in Brownstown Twp, just south of Detroit.

Her main reasoning for doing this is “because no one has ever done it before, and I want to show people who have a dream that no matter what obstacles may potentially be in your way, you have to give it everything you have to reach your dream and to feel alive,”

No word yet on if she plans on tugging an inner-tube with a cooler full of beer, but we recommend it.
