Port Huron Schools not to penalize those who walk out

Wednesday at 10am, many students nationwide are expected to walk out of their classrooms for 17 minutes to raise awareness for gun violence. Here in the local area, the Port Huron Area School district says they will support their student’s rights to free speech while providing supervision and limiting the loss of instructional time. In a statement from Executive Director of Employee and Student Services, Tracie Eschenburg says Port Huron Schools will not penalize students for participating or not participating in the student-led event. Furthermore, Port Hruon Schools says they are not affiliated with or engaged with the planned nationwide walkout.
