Health department touts importance of vaccines

Childhood vaccines the focus of the local health department all week long as the St. Clair County Health Department is celebrating National Infant Immunization Week. The annual observance highlights the importance of protecting infants from vaccine-preventable diseases. Officials say vaccines are especially important for infants as it can prevent life-threatening illnesses. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, vaccinations prevent over 300 million illnesses and nearly 900-thousand deaths.
