Michigan voters may not get a chance to vote on legalizing pot if the top Senate Republican at the state Capitol has his way. Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof is drafting a plan in which lawmakers would approve the legalization of marijuana, thus preventing it from going on the November ballot. Then lawmakers would amend the law to include a rollback of the state income tax rate to 3.9-percent. Meekhof is expected to brief his Senate colleagues behind closed doors today. Even if the Senate approves, the proposal would still need state House approval. Political experts say having the marijuana proposal on the ballot would bring more democratic voters to the polls.
