Local Congressman Paul Mitchell has released a statement over the Trump-Putin summit in Helsinki earlier this week. Mitchell, in a statement to WPHM, says he supports the diplomatic efforts of the president, however condemns Russia for their forceful annexation of Crimea, using chemical attacks in the United Kingdom, and efforts to hack into the U.S. election infrastructure. Mitchell says, “It is clear that Russian actors made a deliberate effort to sow discord in our American electoral process.” Trump, who originally stated he didn’t believe Russia was responsible for election meddling, has since said he misspoke.
