Customs and Border Protection Officers at Port Huron’s Blue Water Bridge are announcing the seizure of ancient artifacts at the border crossing. Officials say a Canadian bulk mail truck that was selected for a secondary inspection on May 25th was found to contain a package of five pieces of ancient Egyptian mummy linen. The seized artifacts are believe to be over 2000 years old and have been verified by an archeological organization from Washington DC. The importer of the artifacts was unable to prove they were removed from Egypt legally. “This seizure of historical importance highlights the wide variety of federal laws that CBP is responsible for enforcing. I am extremely proud of our officers’ hard work during and after the discovery of these ancient artifacts” said Port Director Michael Fox. The CBP says they will be working with the state department to repatriate the artifacts.
