Pursuit near Imlay City ends in crash, injuries

A high speed pursuit of a suspected drunk driver near Imlay City has sent one woman and two children to the hospital. Around 2am Wednesday morning, a female suspected of being intoxicated who stopped to ask for directions at a Capac gas station was reported to St. Clair County Central Dispatch. A description of the vehicle and the driver was forwarded to authorities in Lapeer County as she was believed to be heading westbound on I-69. A few minutes later a vehicle matching the description was spotted along I-69 near Imlay City and deputies attempted to pull over the vehicle when the suspect fled north on M-53 through Imlay City. The pursuit was in excess of 80 miles per hour and was eventually called off due to safety concerns of two children believed to be inside the vehicle. A few minutes later, the car was found off the roadway near M-53 and Bowers Road in Goodland Township. The driver is described as a 40 year old Oxford woman with two daughters, ages 7 and 10. All were taken to area hospitals for treatment with the 10 year old transferred to ta Detroit area hospital in serious condition. Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies believe alcohol was a factor with formal criminal charges expected following the investigation.
