Palms Elementary in the East China School District could be closing by the end of the school year. Superintendent Suzanne Cybulla making the recommendation to close the building at a school board meeting last week. She cites declining enrollment and loss of per-pupil revenue as reasons for the closure. Classes currently held at Palms could be consolidated with Belle River Elementary in Marine City next year. The proposal has yet to be approved by the East China School Board. Earlier this year, the district decided to close  Eddy Elementary in St. Clair. East China Schools currently operates two high schools, two middle schools, and four elementary schools.
