Voters head to the polls Tuesday in some local cities and townships. Among the municipalities with issues on the ballot is Fort Gratiot Township. Voters will be asked to renew and increase the township’s law enforcement millage from 2 mills to 2.5 mills, an increase of approximately $50 per year for homes with a taxable value of $100,000 dollars. Township Clerk Bob Buechler tells WPHM it will fund more deputies on patrol in the township. Currently township residents are served by a deputy who is on duty 24-7 as well as one part time deputy. Buechler says the millage hike would allow for more patrol hours in the township. Polls open Tuesday at 7am and close 8pm. Residents can also vote in person absentee at the township clerk’s office today between 8am and 4:30pm. In addition to Fort Gratiot Township, a handful of local cities will be holding elections tomorrow as well.
