A quarter-million Michigan residents will receive applications that encourage people to apply to serve on on a newly announced committee that will help draw congressional and legislative maps. The registered voters will be randomly selected following a voter approved amendment that requires at least 210,000 applications be mailed. The larger number of applications is to ensure response from enough people. Last year, Michigan voters approved proposal 2 which  changes the way legislative districts in Michigan are drawn. Previously, state lawmakers drew district boundaries for house, senate, and congressional seats. The new law appoints a commission of voters to draw political lines.
