Proponents of a new skate park at Optimist Park in Port Huron have reached their fundraising goal. At Monday night’s city council meeting, officials accepted an additional $50,000 grant from the Ralph C. Wilson Junior and Tony Hawk foundation, pushing them over the $250,000 finish line. According to Port Huron Mayor Pauline Repp, the money will go towards “green technology” at the park. “Not only the city perused grants for it (the skatepark), but you had the support of a group of local people who actually went out there pounding the pavement looking for money,” said Mayor Repp. She specifically thanked the Eppley Family, owners of Alpine Cycles, for their fundraising efforts. Also this week, council members set two public hearings to take place at upcoming meetings. The first is to hear from the community regarding public housing and development needs in the city and will be held January 27th. Another public hearing will be held at the February 10th City Council meeting regarding establishments that have liquor license’s and are delinquent in the payment of taxes.
