Plans for a nuclear waste storage facility near Kincardine, Ontario have been put on hold following opposition from first nations groups in Canada. On Friday, members of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation voted no on a proposal to build a deep geologic repository near the shore of Lake Huron. Ontario Power Generation says they will be working on an alternative plan on where to store the low and intermediate level nuclear waste. OPG adds that they will not proceed with the deep geologic repository without the support of the first nations. Friday’s vote does not concern another possible nuclear waste storage facility at the Kincardine site. The location  is one of two finalists in Canada that could be selected to store high level nuclear waste.
