The Detroit Red Wings made two trades with the Edmonton Oilers before the 3 PM Monday NHL trade deadline.  First the Wings sent defenseman Mike Green to the Oilers for forward Kyle Brodziak and a conditional draft pick.  Brodziak is a retired player whose contract expires at the end of the season.  In order to fit Green under the Oilers salary cap, the Wings took on Brodziak’s contract and kept half of Green’s contract which also expires at the end of the season.  The pick is a 4th round selection in 2020, unless Edmonton reaches the conference finals this year and Green plays in at least half of their playoff games, in which case the pick moves to 2021 and becomes a 3rd round selection.  In a seperate deal the Wings traded forwards Andreas Athanasiou and Ryan Kuffner to the Oilers for forward Sam Gagner and second round draft picks in 2020 and 2021.
