Coronavirus cases and deaths increase statewide, locally

Four new COVID-19 deaths were reported in St. Clair County Tuesday, along with seven new cases. That brings the total number of St. Clair County residents who have been diagnosed with the disease to 291, and the total number of fatalities to 16. The number of deaths reported Tuesday marks the largest single day increase locally since the onset of the pandemic. Two new deaths and three new cases were reported in Lapeer County Tuesday, bringing the total there to 148 positive cases and now 22 fatalities. Sanilac County’s numbers have held steady, with 32 cases and three deaths. Statewide numbers spiked Tuesday as well, now at nearly 33,000 cases and 2700 deaths.

The St. Clair County Health Department says of the confirmed coronavirus cases in the county, 73 have been hospitalized and 174 patients have recovered. The majority, about 44% of them, are between the ages of 50 and 69. The highest number of cases – about 17% of the county-wide total – can be found in the City of Port Huron where there have been 50 positive tests confirmed. Another 28 tests – about 10% of the county-wide total – are in Clay Township in the southern end of St. Clair County.
