Port Huron City Council is moving forward with a plan for new “Social districts” for downtown. Port Huron City Manager James Freed says a recent state law gives cities the right to allow the outdoor consumption of alcohol within a designated footprint. “We chose the main street of Downtown Port Huron,” said Freed. “It allows to get a take out ‘to go’ beverage… but you can go consume it somewhere else in the district.” Port Huron’s Social District will include Huron Avenue from Glenwood to the Military Street Bridge and then Military Street south to Court.  Port Huron City Council unanimously approved the social district resolution at last night’s meeting. The resolution also calls for the purchase of additional tables and chairs which will be placed downtown.
