Several public hearings will take place this evening in front of Port Huron City Council regarding the redevelopment of the former Art Van site downtown. Developer Larry Jones, owner of the building now dubbed “The Wrigley Center” is seeking some tax credits and deferments and will need approval from city council. Jones purchased the building from the St. Clair County Board of Commissioners for $350,000 earlier this year. He hopes to transform the first floor into an entertainment venue with up to three stories of lofts above.
Council members will consider the purchase of new streetlight fixtures for the Desmond Landing area and the Dockside Drive condos. The new streetlights will be installed and managed by DTE Energy. Council could also give the green light to the McMorran authority to request $200,000 worth of funding from the Community Foundation to help complete the McMorran Place Plaza improvements. The final step in officially repealing the city’s original marijuana ordinance in favor of a voter approved initiative will also take place tonight. Port Huron City Council meets at 7pm tonight at the Municipal Office Center.
