Fire hospitalizes one, damages Port Huron home

A Port Huron woman is recovering from smoke inhalation following a house fire early this morning in the 900 block of Oak Street. According to the Port Huron Fire Department, the 80 year old lone occupant of the home awoke to smoke around 4am Friday and was forced to evacuate onto a porch roof. Firefighters rescued the woman from the roof and worked to extinguish the blaze which caused significant structural damage to the home. The woman was taken to an area hospital and treatment for smoke inhalation. The Port Huron Fire Department was assisted by crews from Marysville and Port Huron Township. Investigations into the fire’s cause are ongoing.
