New trail would bridge the gap in county network

It’s the final push for a new trail to connect the campuses of two area schools as well a fill one of the remaining gaps in the Bridge to Bay trail system. Sherri Faust chairs the St. Clair County Regional Trails Board and tells WPHM’s Paul Miller several more thousand dollars are needed to complete the project. “A new paved trail will be built along the south side of the Black River Canal,” said Faust. “It’s going to head west (from Gratiot) parallel to the canal towards Holland Woods Middle School.” A bridge would then be built across the canal leading toward Port Huron Northern High School. The total cost for these projects is approximately $650,000 to complete, with much of it coming from the Ralph C. Wilson Junior Foundation and the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund. Faust says about $25,000 remains to be raised, with donations accepted online at www.stclairfoundation.org.
