DTE Energy says contractors are on pace to complete their new natural gas Blue Water Energy Center next year. Trever Lauer is the President and COO of DTE Electric and spoke to WPHM during last month’s Mackinac Policy Conference. Lauer says nearby residents should expect to see and hear increased activity at East China Township jobsite as they begin the commissioning process.

“The residents of that area will start to see steam and water vapor coming out as the commission progress,” said Lauer. “We’ll be doing some startups of (turbines) in late October and early November and hope to get it linked into the grid by the middle of next year.”

The 1200 megawatt Blue Water Energy Center is expected to replace much of the generating of the neighboring coal fired St. Clair Power Plant. Lauer says the new plant will result in 70% less CO2 emissions and 99% less ozone and acid gasses.
