State updates COVID data, school outbreak list

Only one school outbreak of COVID-19 is being reported this week locally by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. 13 elementary school students and staff have contracted COVID in the Croswell-Lexington School District. No new outbreaks are being reported in St. Clair County. There continues to be nine ongoing school outbreaks in Sanilac County and 13 in St. Clair.

The state health department is reporting just over 17,000 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday. That’s an average of more than 5600 cases per day over the past three days. There were also 83 deaths in Michigan and hospitalizations continue trending up, with more than 3900 people now hospitalized with the virus statewide. The St. Clair County Health Department last week reporting over 1200 new cases with a current testing positivity rate of 21%.
