Cleanup is underway after a diesel fuel spill at a Sarnia refinery. The St. Clair County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management saying the spill happened shortly after 7:30pm Wednesday at the Suncor facility across the river from Marysville. An oily sheen was seen in the river and the scent of diesel fuel could be smelled in the air. Booms have been deployed in the area and the public is asked to avoid the area of the Suncor Energy dock.

Emergency Manager Justin Westmiller says there have been no impacts to drinking water as a result of the spill. Out of an abundance of caution, municipal water intakes in Marysville and points south have been closed and are running on reserves. As of 7am Thursday morning, Emergency Manager Westmiller is recommending water plans reopen their St. Clair River water intakes. No hydrocarbons have been detected at any municipal water plants.
