Man dies after driving into river at ferry dock

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department says an early Saturday morning incident resulted in man’s death when his vehicle entered the St. Clair River. It happened around 4:45 am at the Champion’s Harsen’s Island Auto Ferry dock in St. Clair County’s Clay Township. The 34 year old victim is believed to have driven off the ferry dock and into the North Channel of the St. Clair River. The Sheriff’s Office dive team responded to the incident and extricated the victim from the submerged vehicle. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Team was also able to remove the vehicle from the water. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
