It’s the next step towards allowing recreational marijuana stores in the City of Port Huron. The Port Huron Planning commission tonight will take up a pair of special use permits for two cannabis dispensaries. Ox Trail Incorporated is seeking to open a location in the 1600 block of Pine Grove Avenue at the site of the current Ernest Camera Shoppe. The Exhibit Cannabis Company is seeking to open a store in a commercial building located on the 1000 block of River Street. Port Huron City Council originally drafted a marijuana retailer ordinance in 2020, but had since been challenged in court over the issuing of licenses. A voter initiative placed on the August 2021 ballot was approved voters and superseded the city’s ordinance, but that was also challenged in court, and deemed unenforceable. The Port Huron Planning Commission meets at 6pm tonight at the Municipal Office Center.
