Port Huron City Council will be taking the next steps towards forming a south side neighborhood improvement authority. At a special session meeting at 5pm this evening, consulting firm Double Haul Solutions will present a recommendation for such an authority which would capture a portion of the property taxes from a proposed Electric Avenue condo development in order to re-invest them in the neighborhood.

Following the special meeting, council will then convene in regular session. Members will be asked to approve an agreement with Premiere Security Solutions to provide private security guards at the city’s two beaches. A pair of zoning ordinances are also up for their second reading and enactment tonight. Those seek to rezone a residential properties at 1340 Water Street and at 1910 32nd Street from residential to neighborhood business and light industrial, respectively.

Additionally, council is expected to spend nearly 30-million dollars of their American Rescue Plan dollars on a patio replacement and drainage system at the Port Huron Museum’s Edison Depot. There are also resolutions tonight recognizing Arbor Day as April 28th and renaming the River Street marina to the “James C. Acheson” Marina. Port Huron’s regular session meeting will take place at 7pm at the Municipal Office Center.
