Police thwart Marysville High School threat

Marysville Police responded to threatening statements, including some directed at a local high school, that were posted to social media by an unnamed student Thursday. The comments were accompanied with a photo of a handgun, which turned out to belong to a family member of the suspect. Upon learning of the situation, the youth was quickly removed from class and a search was conducted by the Marysville Schools Security Specialist and Marysville Police School Resource Officer. An investigation revealed that no weapon had been brought into the school and with the full cooperation from the suspect’s parents, the handgun was located and secured at the student’s home. Charges against the youth have been sent to the St. Clair County Prosecutor’s office for review. Marysville Police would like to reiterate that the weapon was not taken into the school. They would also like to thank the parents, students, and staff who brought the potential threat to their attention.
