Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court released a opinion Friday regarding a case involving Port Huron’s City Manager. In the case, it is alleged that James Freed, in his capacity as a government official, infringed upon a St. Clair County man’s freedom of speech by blocking him on social media. In the opinion, the court asks petitioner Kevin Lindke to show Freed had authority to speak on behalf of the government and appeared to exercise that authority in relevant Facebook posts. The question of authority differs from the criteria that used by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in it’s initial proceedings. Therefore, Supreme Court will vacate the lower court’s earlier decision and send it back to the Sixth Circuit for further determination.
