As the holidays approach, residents in Port Huron’s Sherman Woods neighborhood are getting ready for this year’s Red Kettle campaign in support of the Port Huron Salvation Army. The Sherman Woods has a reputation for its vibrant and expansive Christmas light displays that draw large crowds throughout the Christmas season. In 2016, residents saw an opportunity to collect donations for the Salvation Army from passers-by, and have so far collected more than $42,000 dollars for the organization. Starting this weekend, Red Kettles will be staffed by Sherman Woods residents Friday and Saturday nights during the season from 6:30 until 9:30 at the corner of Armour Street and LaSalle Boulevard. The Salvation Army Band will also be performing during the month, and Santa is also expected to make a few appearances.
