The United Way of St. Clair County officially closed the books on their 2024 fundraising campaign Thursday night during a special event also marking the organization’s 100th anniversary. Campaign Chair Deb Johnson, who also serves as Executive Director of St. Clair County Community Mental Health, announced the campaign brought in $870,000, just shy of their $900,000 goal.

“I’m super competitive, so of course I wanted to hit or exceed that number,” Johnson said speaking with WPHM during the event. “But I’m really proud of the effort—and it truly took a village to get there.”

Throughout the campaign, the United Way hosted several fundraising events and leaned heavily on volunteers, sponsors, and community partnerships. Johnson said the campaign’s success reflects the generosity of local residents, even amid economic uncertainty. Johnson also emphasized the need to spread awareness about the services United Way helps provide. She said this year’s funds will help with emergency housing, reduce food insecurity, and support child abuse prevention services through partnerships with more than 20 local organizations.

“If you’re in need—or know someone who is—call the United Way,” Johnson said. “If they can’t help you directly, they’ll point you in the right direction.”
