Sarnia Police are releasing details about a stabbing that occurred earlier in the week on the west side of town.
Officers were called to the 800 block of Devine Street just after 9:30 Tuesday night on reports of a domestic incident and found a 17-year-old girl with injuries to her arm and back. A female suspect was seen fleeing into a nearby house where she barricaded herself inside and refused to come out.
Police held the scene while acquiring a warrant, and with support from the Emergency Response Team and K-9 Unit, officers announced their intention to force their way into the home shortly after midnight. The woman chose to surrender without further incident. Investigators say the incident started as a personal dispute that turned physical. The victim was treated by paramedics and taken to a local hospital where she was last known to be in stable condition.
18-year-old Alivia Martin-Read has been arraigned on three charges including assault with a weapon, causing bodily harm, and possession of a dangerous weapon. She’s been remanded into police custody following a bail hearing.
