The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office says its Special Response Team is continuing to rebuild after a fire earlier this year destroyed much of its specialized equipment.
The fire happened February 25th at a commercial building in Kimball Township that houses equipment used by the St. Clair County Drug Task Force. The building contained equipment, ammunition, and office space, though officials say some losses were minimized thanks to evidence being stored in a fireproof vault.
Sheriff Mat King is now thanking two companies for helping replace critical gear. United Shield International donated multiple ballistic shields along with 15 Level Four body armor plates, while Pro-Tech Sales provided helmets, gas masks, and additional shields.
King says the donations are making a significant difference as the department works to recover, adding that support from neighboring agencies and the law enforcement community has also helped speed up the rebuilding process.
