City council is expected to take the next step forward into creating an Neighborhood Improvement Authority on the city’s southside. The Southside Neighborhood Improvement Authority – which will capture the growth in property taxes in the district – will be the subject of a first reading of an ordinance Monday. Enactment could take place as soon as next month.
Council is also expected to approve the disbursement of over $100,000 of opioid settlement funds to the Blue Water Recovery and Outreach Center and submit a grant request to the Department of Natural Resources to help fund the removal and replanting of trees along public right of ways. Additionally, council is expected to continue a partnership with SC4 in which a police officer serves as a College Resource Office for the next school year. City council meets at 7pm tonight at the Municipal Office Center.
