An early morning fire left significant damage to a St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office storage facility in Kimball Township.
The fire was reported just before 4 a.m. Wednesday on Ash Drive, near the St. Clair County International Airport. Multiple local fire departments and law enforcement agencies responded.
Officials say the building housed offices, equipment, and ammunition used by the county’s Drug Task Force. It was not immediately clear which materials were damaged.
By 9 a.m., the fire had been extinguished and no injuries have been reported.
Michigan State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are leading the investigation into the cause of the fire.
Sheriff’s officials say the department prepares for emergencies such as this and that the Drug Task Force will continue operating. The full extent of the damage is not yet known.
