With Winter seeming to wrap up then come back, our Bill Gilmer spoke on the morning show to Roger Hewlett whom is a ice breaker operator for the area. Hewlett talked about his experience being an icebreaker operator saying that for some of the local vessels its a full time job. He mentioned that one of the worst things to clean up is when the snow on top of the ice turns to slush, and becomes stacked up and heavier for the Tugs to break. Hewlett also gives presentations locally about Ice breaking operations from the winter storm of 2013-14, which he says is one of the worst seasons he has ever experienced. There is a scheduled presentation at the St. Clair Public Library, Thursday March 3rd at 6:30 pm. Hewlett says it will be a very interesting experience and hopes to teach the community about the job of a Tug Boat Operator. There will be a slide show and video to go along with his presentation. The St. Clair Public Library can be found at 310 South 2nd Street St. Clair, MI 48079 or reached at 810-329-3951.
