With all of the projects coming together in downtown Port Huron, the city is having a good problem, lack of Parking. It may be a sign of better times, but it’s still a problem. As more lofts come to downtown and new businesses open, parking will become an issue, says Developer Larry Jones, who would like to see the city do more. Back in 2006, the city paid for a study that showed Port Huron had plenty of parking; but at that time, according to Jones, the city was dead. Jones says that most cities, like Grand Rapids and Holland, have parking decks. He believes the perfect spot for a parking deck in downtown would be the Majestic parking lot. It’s centrally located and would be the fastest and least expensive option. If Port Huron wants to be a growing community, Jones notes, it will take positive people that love the city, working together, and not giving up. For those that would like to live the “loft lifestyle” in downtown, you’ll have to patient, as Jones says there’s a big waiting list. He notes that more people living downtown is a great asset for a city.
