St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon is praising new legislation at the State Capitol aimed at curbing school violence. The package of bills were introduced by State Representative Aaron Miller and passed the State House earlier this week, it now moves on to the State Senate. The legislation would increase funding for school security and mental health services. It also makes the reporting of school threats of violence mandatory. Sheriff Donnellon says the bills are a result of recommendations made by law enforcement and education professionals earlier this year. The school violence bills are also supported by the Michigan Sheriff’s Association, the Michigan Association of School Boards, and the Prosecuting Attorney Association of Michigan.
