Fraudulent checks leads to one arrest in Lapeer County

One man is in jail and another is wanted in connection to a payroll fraud scheme at an area bank. This past Friday, a teller at Lakestone Bank and Trust in Attica became suspicious about two males attempting to cash payroll checks from a local business. The teller contacted the local business who confirmed they were fake. Police were called to the bank with one suspect fleeing the scene and another being detained by a bank customer until authorities arrived. 65 year old Stanley Welch of Detroit was arrested and a a 54 year old male from Detroit fled the scene. The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the Attica case as well as as similar situation that occurred at the Lakestone bank branch in Imlay City.
