Lexington officer critically injured in Sunday crash

A Lexington police officer is in critical condition stemming from an accident yesterday morning in Sandusky. According to the Sandusky Police Department, the officer was traveling east through the intersection of M-46 and M-19 in downtown Sandusky around 10am yesterday morning. A vehicle turning left onto Sanilac Avenue failed to stop at the intersection with the the Lexington officer attempting to avoid a head-on collision. The officer lost traction on the wet roadway and struck a nearby traffic light pole. He was was taken to McKenzie Health System in Sandusky and later transferred to Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit where he is recovering from critical injuries.
