Gas prices continue upward trend

Gas prices in Michigan are creeping upwards, according to the latest AAA of Michigan Gas Gauge survey. According to the auto club, the price at the pump shot up by an average of 10 cents a gallon for self serve regular state-wide, to an average of $2.98 a gallon. Price are up 48 cents a gallon above last year’s averages at this time. Industry analysts say refinery maintenance and lower inventories are behind the increase. Across the local area, gas is $2.97 in Lapeer, while Sandusky pumps are asking $3.03 a gallon, and in the Port Huron area, it’s about $2.99 for a gallon of regular unleaded.
