Contractors working to reconstruct Michigan Street in Port Huron struck a gas line yesterday, causing a brief evacuation of nearby residents. Port Huron Fire Department Battalion Chief James Hayes tells WPHM the incident occur ed around 1pm yesterday. Fire crews evacuated residents in nearby lofts and that the approximately 2-inch gas line was shut off within ten minutes of being reported. Hayes says they continued to monitor the air quality of the area and were able to let residents back into their lofts once the gas dissipated.
