You won’t need to drive all the way to Mackinaw City or St. Ignace this coming Monday to walk across a famous bridge. The St. Clair County Department of Parks and Recreation will be offering a bridge walk of their own on Labor Day. Dennis Delor, Special Events and Volunteer Coordinator for County Parks tells WPHM this year marks the 12th Trestle Trek on the Wadhams to Avoca Trail, giving local residents a chance to participate in the Labor Day tradition a little closer to home. Delor says the Trestle Trek will begin at the trailhead in Avoca at 9am Labor Day Monday. Walkers will head south for about 2.5 miles, cross the Mill Creek Trestle, and then return for a total of 5 miles, the same length of the Mackinac Bridge. Delor adds the trestle bridge is the longest of it’s kind in Michigan, at nearly 650 feel long and 60 feet above Mill Creek.
